Tuesday is Election Day and in addition to the races for governor, U.S. House, state offices and more, people have the opportunity to cast ballots involving two Red Wing Public Schools items: the School Board election and an operating levy extension referendum.
Red Wing Public Schools is seeking to renew and extend the referendum monies that voters overwhelmingly endorsed in 2018.
The ballot question, by state law, must include the phrase:
Shall the increase in the revenue proposed by the board of Independent School District No. 256 be approved?
The phrase has the potential to confuse voters. Note that:
· This is a renewal -- not an increase -- of the current $1,650 per pupil funding.
· This would extend the operating levy passed passed in 2018 to run through 2030 and will not raise your property taxes.
