Lake City Shooting Update

Lake City Police have released the name of the suspect in the Wednesday shooting.


Officers responded to reports of shots fired in the 1300 block of North Lakeshore Drive. They learned a male individual was in the backyard area between North High Street and North Lakeshore Drive, behind the Subway restaurant.


Officers employed less than lethal bean bag shotgun rounds to subdue the suspect, 81 year old Willam Charles Piar, 1304 N. High Street, Lake City.


Police say the shooting suspect was released from the hospital and was booked into the Goodhue County Jail.


They discovered an adult male in an adjacent apartment within the same building that houses Subway with multiple gunshot wounds.


He was transported to MCHS-Lake City hospital and then transferred to St. Mary’s Rochester. His condition is unknown at this time but he suffered life-threatening injuries.


The name of the victim is being withheld at this time out of respect to him and his family while he recovers from his injury.


Lake City Police Department was assisted at the scene by the Wabasha County Sheriffs Office, Goodhue County Sheriffs Office and Lake City Ambulance.


The crime scene was processed by the Minnesota BCA.


The investigation is ongoing. There is no ongoing threat to the public.
