Pickleball is not only growing by leaps and bounds in Red Wing but’s it’s one the fastest growing sports in the United States for people of all ages.
The Red Wing Pickleball group is fundraising for their goal of to build 6 new pickleball courts at Colvill Park.
Tim Sletten says the group has had private commitments already but are about $90,000 short right now towards raisng 75% of the total estimated cost of, $350,000. In August, the Red Wing City Council approved commiting to funding the remainding 25% .
Sletten says at first glance, Pickleball may look a lot like tennis but it’s a very different sport.
Sletten says you can fit 2 pickleball courts inside 1 tennis court. He says they play outside when it’s warm on make shift courts and at the YMCA in the winter.
