A Red Wing man has been sentenced in Goodhue County Court to 40 years in prison with credit for the 471 days he has spent in jail since his arrest.
28-year old Hunter Matthew McCutchen was charged with two counts of Murder in the First Degree and nearly a dozen additional charges in relation to the death of McCutchen’s 8-week-old child on May 25 of 2023.
McCutchen entered into a plea agreement in July and admitted to the second-degree murder charge. In exchange, all of the other charges were dismissed.
McCutchen was indicted by a Goodhue County Grand Jury last November after a four-and-a-half-month investigation by the Red Wing Police Department and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
The medical report from Mayo Clinic physicians stated the child's injuries were "highly suggestive of non-accidental trauma.", finding evidence of multiple rib fractures in various stages of healing, and a leg fracture.
The court document also states that imaging found and multiple areas of bleeding on the brain, possibly due to "shaken baby syndrome."
