The CPKC Holiday Train made a stop in Red Wing last Friday night for the first time since 2004 and the community turned out in droves to welcome the train and donate to the Red Wing Area Food Shelf.
The Food Shelf received over 420 lbs of food and $,5829.69, with the Holiday Train donating $4,500.
Michelle Larson, Red Wing Chamber of Commerce Executive Director, says despite the freezing temperatures, the community really stepped up with their support.
Larson says the CPKC Holiday Train will be invited back next year but we will all have to wait awhile until that’s determined.
Since its inaugural journey in 1999, the CPKC Holiday Train has raised more than $26 million and collected approximately 5.4 million pounds of food for community food banks in Canada and the U.S.
