Red Wing Heritage Preservation Awards of Merit

The Red Wing Heritage Preservation Commission recently presented multiple Awards of Merit for historic preservation projects around the community at the Goodhue County Historical Society.


The City of Red Wing and the Prairie Island Indian Community were recognized for the design and construction of the new welcome plaza at He Mni Can/Barn Bluff Regional Park. The recently completed plaza is the result of a multi-year collaborative effort between both parties. The project also involved improvements to the trail system on the bluff.


Doug Noreen and Liberty’s Restaurant and Lounge were honored for the detailed reconstruction of a portion of the building that was destroyed in a 2020 due to a collapse caused by an automobile crash.


An Award of Merit was presented to Lynn and Charles Brown for the exterior restoration and porch reconstruction of their Gothic Revival style home at 827 West Third Street


Andrea and Chad Hanson received the honor for the adaptive reuse of the upper level of 215 Bush Street by adding four new residential apartments. The Hansons are recognized for their vision, investment, and efforts in repurposing the space and providing needed housing in downtown Red Wing.
