Red Wing residents now know how the city will be using the funds it's receiving this year from the federal American Rescue Plan Act.
The Red Wing City Council voted 4-1 Monday night to approve money for the Arts & Culture Commission and a business loan program.
Of the just over $863,000 the City will receive, the Arts & Culture Commission will receive $75,000 for art initiatives. Mayor Mike Wilson said he thought more should be invested in the business community.
Board member Laurel Stinson said she supported that amount and she thinks a thiving arts and culture community in Red Wing helps the local economy.
A business loan program for veteran-owned, women-owned, and BIPOC (Black, Indigenous and people of color) -owned businesses will receive $100,000. The Port Authority will also be asked to contribute $50,000 to that program.
The remainder of the ARPA funds will go into the Water and Sewer Utility Fund.
