Plainview, Elgin and Millville are among the first round of 75 small communities selected to partner with the University of Minnesota through Empowering Small Minnesota Communities (ESMC), a community-centered collaboration meant to support small communities in becoming well-positioned to benefit from federal, state, and local investments.
Working with a community-based Plainview business, Atelier @1901, Plainview/Elgin/Millville’s Tactical Action project will focus on supporting community engagement in the creation of an inclusive and welcoming shared gathering space for all, especially members of the community who have been historically marginalized, including LGBTQI+ residents.
The Plainview News reports the project also involves the development of knowledge and tools to improve the building’s energy efficiency.
Minnesota Driftless Hiking Trail, a nonprofit based in southeast Minnesota, also will receive support through Tactical Action.
The team will focus on trail design guidelines and community engagement sessions to support the development of the upcoming hiking trail.
