Elgin Dollar General Store Purchase

Elgin’s City Council on Jan. 21 approved a modified purchase agreement with AMH Properties, Inc., to develop a Dollar General store on a lot just south of City Hall.

The Plainview News reports Mayor Kevin Keilholtz said he was recently contacted by an AMH Properties repesentative regarding the Dollar General project.

Dollar General was originally not satisfied with soil quality on the land, and withdrew from the project late in 2025.

But the representative said he was able to reopen discussions with the company, and they agreed to move forward with a modified purchase agreement.

Keilholtz said Dollar General is a reputable company that provides good benefits, donates locally, and participates in community grants.

Grants like the one to build city hall. The grant was to update streets and curbs but instead went to building a city hall . That's fucked up
