Members of the Wabasha Ambulance and Wabasha Police Department were recognized and honored recently.
On Thursday, March 20th Wabasha Ambulance and Wabasha Police Department were dispatched to a business in Wabasha for a report of an unresponsive person.
EMR Jeff Wallerich was the first on scene and found the patient unresponsive and without a pulse.
He immediately initiated CPR. Wabasha Police Officer Dan Metcalf arrived shortly after with his AED, followed closely by the ambulance crew. Two shocks were administered with the AED, and thanks to the quick actions of everyone involved, the patient regained a pulse and began breathing on their own while being transported to the hospital.
The patient was later flown to St. Mary’s in Rochester, where they were pronounced neurologically intact.
In recognition of this incredible team effort, Wabasha Ambulance Director Marking and Alex Catevenis, Education Coordinator for Southeast EMS, presented EMR Jeff Wallerich, Officer Dan Metcalf, EMT James Dunham, EMT Tina Cook, EMT Dawn Kontzelmann and Dispatcher Austyn Burt (not pictured) with the Life Saver Award.
