Wabasha County Attorney’s Salary

ree

The nearly year-long legal battle between Wabasha County Attorney Matthew Stinson and the Wabasha County Board of Commissioners has taken another turn.

KTTC reports a judge has ordered the County Board to restore Stinson’s full salary.

The Wabasha County Board of Commissioners cut Stinson’s pay from $130,000 a year to $110,000 in November of last year.

Stinson filed an appeal a month later.

According to court records, one reason for the pay cut was a personal issue involving Commissioner Donald Springer.

Court records detail Springer was upset the county attorney prioritized a curfew violation with his son over prosecuting more serious matters.

The judge found this led to “arbitrary and capricious” decisions made by the board and ordered the county board to review Stinson’s salary again, reinstating it to $130,000 a year retroactive to November when his salary was cut.
