The Lake City Fire Department was called to service Sunday at 9:08 am for the report of a “large fire.”
At the time over a foot of snow was on the ground making response very difficult. Bruce Wallerich (retired LCFD) and Brandon Herzig (LCFD) from Streets and Parks made sure snow was cleared for the Fire Department, then escorting the fire response all the way to the fire ground.
Without this coordinated effort response would have been close to impossible.
On arrival crews were met with a tin roofed building with a known large fire load.
The roof had collapsed from weight of snow prior to their arrival, which could have caused ignition. Exact source of ignition is unknown at this time.
The building was unoccupied and nobody was injured before or during fire ground operations.
Mutual aid was received from Wabasha Fire and Zumbro Falls Fire.
After six hours on scene and thousands of feet of hose lines laid in the snow and mud, the last fire crew cleared the scene.
