The Red Wing Area Chamber of Commerce and Visit Red Wing hosted a special community welcome at the Red Wing Depot Tuesday afternoon to celebrate the inaugural trip of the Amtrak Borealis. Â
As of Tuesday, Amtrak is running a second daily train service (Amtrak Borealis) between Chicago and Minneapolis-St. Paul and it will make additional Minnesota-area stops in Red Wing, Winona, and La Crosse.
Representative Pam Altendorf was on hand for the event and says the addition of a second Amtrak train will be an economic boost for Red Wing and beyond.
Altendorf, who represents District 20A, which includes Goodhue County, much of Wabasha County, and Douglas Township and Miesville in Dakota County, says the low ticket prices for the Amtrak Borealis will give local businesses can expand their reach in other communities.
The community celebration included remarks from MnDOT officials, and Goodhue County Commissioner, Susan Betcher, who spoke of the late former Goodhue County Commissioner Paul Drotos, who played a key role in the project.Â
