Red Wing Arts Midwest Memory Grant

Red Wing Arts is one of the eight recipients of the inaugural Midwest Memory Grant.

This initiative, funded by the Mellon Foundation, supports rural Midwest communities in creating, recontextualizing, and preserving monuments and memorials that honor important untold local histories and stories.

Each team will receive $75,000 to bring their project to life, $25,000 for capacity building, an additional $10,000 for cultural advisors, plus 80 hours of technical assistance from Forecast’s team.

Red Wing Arts' selected project, “Homecoming: A Place to Heal,” partners with the Honoring Dakota Project — a community-rooted partnership between the Prairie Island Indian Community, Goodhue County, the City of Red Wing, and Red Wing Arts.

The project will invite Dakota people back to He Mni Can through a symbolic bark lodge serving as a gathering space for reflection and learning.
