Plainview Safe Routes to School Trial Run

Greg Taylor

Plainview Mayor, Aaron Luckstein, says the Minnesota Department of Transportation recently added several new features as part of Safe Routes to School program.

Safe Routes to School’s goal is to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion around schools. Luckstein says the City compiled the results of community input and MnDOT’s assessment.

Plainview’s demonstration project is along Minnesota Highway 42 at Second Avenue Northwest, along a route that children use to walk to the PEM PreK-3 and high school buildings.

Luckstien says these are low cost improvements like bumpouts, narrowing the cross walk, and paint. The City is now looking to collect community feedback.

Elgin also had a demonstration last month on Main Street and Second Avenue Northwest

as part of the Safe Routes to School program.
