Plainview’s City Council on Dec. 9 approved a resolution certifying the final 2025 tax levy collectible in 2026, in the amount of $3,095,900.

The Plainview News reports the City Council approved a preliminary levy amount of $3,127,368 in September, reflecting an increase of 7.03 percent from the 2025 levy.

After working through the budget process in October and November, they were able to reduce the final levy to $3,095,900, which now reflects an increase from the 2025 levy in the amount of $173,953, or 5.95 percent.

City Finance Director Vicki Axley says inflation makes it difficult to reduce the levy any further without affecting city services provided to citizens.

The City Council also approved a 2026 operating budget for general governmental funds in the amount of $5,034,40.

Axley said a few of the highlights of this year’s budget include:

Maintaining all current city services.

Three percent cost of living Increases for all full-time and permanent part-time employees.

Fund sidewalk repairs at $55,000 per year and waterway repairs at $50,000 per year.

Increase funding of the capital improvement fund to $300,000 per year and continue funding the street project fund at $150,000 per year and the park project fund at $50,000 per year for future improvement projects and equipment needs.

Maintain current funding to the Plainview Community Center, Olde-Fashioned Christmas, the Garden Club, the Bluebell Festival, and Corn on the Cob Days.
