Plainview Annexation Passes

Greg Taylor

Plainview’s City Council on Feb. 27 approved an ordinance annexing 37.6 acres of land in Plainview Township into the City of Plainview, pursuant to Minnesota statute.

According to the Plainview News, the proposed annexation includes land along County Road 4 in Plainview Township, just south of Plainview’s sewer plant.

BA Holdings, a real estate holding company, purchased the land and wishes to annex it into the city and thus have a commercial / industrial subdivision that could be serviced by city utilities.

Plainview Mayor, Keith Holm, says the room was pretty packed, about 50 people attended the special meeting at Plainview City Hall, and there was passion on both sides who chose to speak.

Holm says he’s glad the City’s process was by the book.

City Administrator David Todd said a staff report was generated, analyzing the potential issues surrounding annexing lands into the city limits.

The conclusion of the report indicates that the benefits of annexing outweigh the costs associated with providing services to the annexed area.

Plainview’s City Attorney, Mike Flaherty, said petitions checked and approved in this case must be approved by the State of Minnesota.
