NWS Spring Snowmelt Flooding Potential

According to the National Weather Service in La Crosse, as of now, signs are pointing towards severe spring flooding being less likely.

Factors that go into spring flood potential include...

  • Geography/location of snowpack

  • Fall precipitation

  • Frost Depth

  • Existing snowpack (water equivalent)

  • Melting Conditions and date of melt

  • Future precipitation

  • River Ice

The Weather Service reports they have seen very favorable flood scenarios with perfect melting conditions so far as of January 27th.

The next survey date for the spring snowmelt flood outlook is February 10th.
