The National Weather Service will present Richard Gosse of Wabasha a 50-year service award for his contributions to the National Weather Service Cooperative Observer program on Friday.
From July 1st of 1971 to November 8th of 2021 Richard faithfully and accurately documented the precipitation and snowfall at his home.
The award will be presented by Todd Shea, Meteorologist-In-Charge, and Dan Jones, Observation Program Leader, out of the National Weather Service office in La Crosse.
The daily precipitation and snowfall data collected by Richard becomes a permanent part of the climatic record for the local area and nation.
This data is used extensively by many other sectors including the National Weather Service and state climatologists.
