Ryan Jeffers came through in the clutch as the Twins beat the Texas Rangers 7-5 at Target Field. Jeffers hit a pinch-hit, two-run home run to break a 5-5 tie in the bottom of the eighth. The Twins overcame a three-run deficit by hitting five home runs in the game. Michael A. Taylor went deep twice, while Royce Lewis and Kyle Farmer also homered. Josh Winder earned his second win in relief, and Griffin Jax picked up his second save. The Twins have a six-game lead over Cleveland in the AL Central at 66-and-62. Sonny Gray starts for Minnesota against the Rangers tonight. Listen to game on KWNG & WBHA Pre-game at 6:30 pm, 1st pitch at 7:10 pm!
The N'Keal Harry experience has come to an end. The Vikings cut the former first-round wide receiver yesterday. Harry signed with the Purple earlier this month, but he suffered a lower-body injury last week. Minnesota used the extra roster spot to sign safety Jake Gervase. The 27-year-old had six tackles in 14 games with the Rams last season. The Vikings wrap-up preseason with a game against the Arizona Cardinals tomorrow at noon. Listen to the game on KCUE & WBHA!
The Minnesota Lynx held the Dallas Wings in check during a 90-81 win at College Park Center. The Lynx led by just two at halftime, but they outscored Dallas 21-12 in the third quarter to take control of the contest. Napheesa Collier led Minnesota with 25 points, and Kayla McBride finished the game with 20. The Lynx are in fifth-place in the WNBA at 17-and-17. They host the Liberty tomorrow night.
The Packers close out the preseason tomorrow afternoon. The team welcomes the Seahawks to Lambeau for the third and final exhibition game of the summer. Green Bay is 1-and-1 following a 21-17 loss to the Patriots last weekend. Seattle is 2-and-0 after edging the Cowboys 22-14 last Saturday. The starters are expected to play tomorrow.
Meanwhile, the Packers are naming a backup quarterback to Jordan Love. Head coach Matt LaFleur announced yesterday that rookie Sean Clifford will be the number-2 QB in Green Bay. He was selected in the fifth round out of Penn State in April's draft. Clifford threw for 86 touchdowns and over 10-thousand yards as a four-year starter with the Nittany Lions. He has 345 yards, one touchdown and two interceptions through the preseason.
The Brewers are back on the diamond tonight. The team welcomes the Padres to American Family Field for the first of three games. Milwaukee is coming off a series sweep of the Twins and is first in the NL Central with a 70-and-57 record. San Diego is fourth in the NL West at 61-and-67.
