Levee Park Circle Sculpture

When Red Wing’s  Levee Park received a facelift six years ago, the Levee Park Circle was built for a permanent art piece.

Now that sculpture, entitled Welcome Home, is being created by local Dakota artists Darrell Campbell and Jesse Childs.

The piece will be donated to the City of Red Wing, thanks to Red Wing Arts in partnership with the Honoring Dakota Project, which received a grant for this purpose.

Four 8-foot-tall steel staffs will each be built from four scrolls stacked on top of each other.

This scroll is known as "the Red Wing symbol" in archaeology and appears on pottery and other iconographic items throughout this region.

The staffs also evoke the staff of Chief Red Wing, symbolizing leadership and resilience.

Installation is planned for late fall, including a community gathering.
