Motorists near Highway 61 bridge at Withers Harbor in Red Wing may encounter overnight traffic delays today and Wednesday while construction crews place beams on the new bridge, according to the Minnesota Department of Transportation.
Â
Last night, crews started setting beams at 7 p.m. until 7 a.m. this morning.
Â
Traffic will remain open during the work, but the brief delays will occur as trucks arrive with the beams and when the beams are lifted by crane and placed on the new bridge. Traffic will be stopped in both directions at that time for up to 15 minutes.
Similar work will occur the next two nights, depending on the weather.
Â
Additionally, Withers Harbor Drive will be closed and detoured today (Tuesday).
The road underneath the bridge will remain closed through July 17. It may open on weekends if work allows.
