2024 Mighty Mississippi Clean Up Challenge

Goodhue County is kicking off the 2024 Mighty Mississippi Clean Up Challenge, anytime between April 15th and May 15th, 2024.

The challenge, extended to all Minnesota counties located on the Mississippi River, will aid in tackling the growing river pollution.

The Mississippi River is the 6th most endangered river in the US due to pollution. Minnesota is home to the headwaters of the Mississippi and the first 650 miles of river and what we do here in Minnesota directly impacts the remaining 1,700 miles.

In 2023, four counties including Goodhue County, participated in the challenge: Anoka, Dakota, and Ramsey. Collectively, over 300 volunteers collected over 200 trash bags of trash and recyclables.

In Red Wing last year, there were two simultaneous clean up events, at Colvill Park and at Sturgeon Lake Road and County Road 18.

Goodhue County encourages the public to contact their elected officials to take on the challenge and organize cleanup events in their communities.
