Wabasha County Water Safety Grants

At the recent Wabasha County Board meeting, comissioners approved a pair of water safety grants.

They approved a Minnesota (DNR) Annual County Boat and Water Safety Grant contract, a reimbursement grant of $12,118 for fiscal 2025.

The Sheriff’s Office is required by the State to provide water patrol.

This grant provides reimbursement to cover the cost of personnel expenses (excludes Federal grant personnel hours), supplies and expenses, and equipment directly related to the boat and water safety program.

The grant monies assist in keeping waterways safe by allowing additional enforcement and patrol.

The grant agreement runs 18 months, which will give an additional six-month extension each year to expend state grant funds.

The Wabasha County Baord also adopted a Resolution to authorize and sign the 2025 Federal Boating Safety Patrol grant, a reimbursement grant of $5,500.

This grant provides overtime reimbursement to offset additional costs in association with water patrol during periods of high watercraft use and will assist in keeping waterways safe by allowing additional enforcement and patrol.

This grant period runs through Sept. 1st.
