Wabasha County Emergency Management was informed late last month about a potential security breach affecting their emergency notification system, OnSolve CodeRED.
OnSolve CodeRED forensic investigators have found an organized cybercriminal group has claimed responsibility for this incident, which affected the CodeRED platform, its customers and users. Law enforcement is actively investigating.
Investigators believe that data associated with the OnSolve CodeRED platform may have been removed from the system.
The platform is generally used only for mass notification emergency alerts and, typically, maintains basic subscriber information.
To prevent further risk, the OnSolve CodeRED platform has been decommissioned and will not be restored.
Based on the information currently available, it appears the impacted dataset may include certain contact information provided by CodeRED users, such as:
• Name • Address • Email address • Phone numbers • Passwords associated with CodeRED user profiles.
If you used the same password for CodeRED and any other accounts (personal or business) you are strongly encouraged you to change those passwords immediately.
The compromised system has been disabled and the County is actively working to replace it with an improved emergency notification system with new security enhancements.
If you have questions or concerns, please contact Brenda Tomlinson, Wabasha County Emergency Management Director, at 651-565-3069 or at tomlinson@co.wabasha.mn.us.
