The annual United Way of Goodhue, Wabasha, Pierce counties free school supply drive pickup event is Tuesday, August 19th at the Red Wing Elks Lodge, 306 West 4th Street, from 4 pm – 7 pm.
Executive Director, Nicolle Mechelke, says new basic supplies are being collected today and volunteers will assemble kits for local elementary, middle and high school students.
She says there are no qualifications that need to be met, everyone with kiddos are welcome, including the little ones. There will fun activities for pre-schoolers.
Mechelke says the parents appreciate the assistance and the kids really have a fun time.
She says buying school supplies is getting more and more expensive.
Items collected include pencils, pens and colored pens, crayons, markers, glue sticks, rulers, scissors, notebooks and backpacks.
Thanks to the Elks Lodge, there will be free Sloppy Joes and chips while supplies last.
