Red Wing Man 2nd Degree Murder Charges

At 5:58 p.m. Sunday the Red Wing Police Department responded to an incident at 1052 Putnam Avenue involving a suicidal male party with a handgun.

Red Wing Police conducted negotiations for several hours and 41-year old Darryl Dion Nixon Jr. ultimately exited the residence and was taken into custody.

Upon further investigation, officers found one deceased female inside the residence.

Nixon Jr. was arrested Sunday on 2nd degree murder charges and is being held in the Goodhue County Jail. He will make an initial appearance in Goodhue County District Court on Tuesday.

The deceased woman was taken to the Southern Minnesota Regional Medical Examiner's Office in Rochester for autopsy and formal identification. Information about her identity will be released once the preliminary autopsy and family notifications are complete.

The autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday.
