The Minnesota Wild had their eight-game point streak snapped with a loss against the Los Angeles Kings at Crypto-dot-com Arena. Minnesota gave up three goals in both the first and second periods. Marc-Andre Fleury saved just 11 of the 16 shots that he faced before he was replaced by Filip Gustavsson. The Wild are in fifth place in the Central Division at 34-28-and-8. Minnesota hosts St. Louis on Saturday.
Louie Varland had a bad day during a 12-3 Twins loss to the Tigers in a Spring Training game at Lee Health Sports Complex. Varland was tagged with the loss after surrendering eight runs on nine hits and three walks in four innings. Ryan Jeffers added a home run in the losing effort. Cole Sands takes the hill for the Twins against Washington today.
The Minnesota Timberwolves are almost officially under new ownership. The Athletic is reporting that Marc Lore and Alex Rodriguez submitted paperwork to the NBA that will allow them to buy majority ownership of the team. Dyal Capital Partners is investing in the pair after private equity firm Carlyle dropped out earlier in the week. Lore and Rodriguez agreed to purchase the Wolves from Taylor in 2021, beginning a process of slowly buying shares of the team over the last two years. The NBA still has to formally approve the purchase, which will give A-Rod and Lore 60-percent ownership of the team. Minnesota hosts Cleveland tomorrow night.
The Bucks fell to the Celtics 122-119 in Boston. Damian Lillard led all scorers with 32 points and dished out six assists. Bobby Portis netted 24 off the bench and grabbed 15 rebounds for a double-double. Giannis Antetokounmpo sat out with a hamstring injury as Milwaukee slipped to 44-and-25. The Bucks still lead the Central and will host the Nets tonight.
Grambling and Colorado are the last schools to go dancing. Grambling edged Montana State 88-81 in overtime to claim 16th-seed in the Midwest region, while Colorado won the final First Four matchup against Boise State 60-53 to secure the 10th seed in the South. Meanwhile, Wisconsin earned the fifth-seed in the South region and will play 12th-seeded James Madison in Brooklyn tomorrow night. Marquette got the second-seed in the South and will play 15th-seeded Western Kentucky in Indianapolis tomorrow afternoon.
