Buckman Billy Goats 6 Red Wing Aces 4-It was another frustrating first round exit at the state tournament for the Aces on Sunday.

Buckman took advantage of two errors and added two hits off Aces starting pitcher Aaron Johnson to score two runs in the top of the first inning. Buckman added three runs in the fourth. Matt Kummet singled with one out. Andrew Rueckert doubled to right with Kummet going to third on the hit. Aaron Johnson hit Jack Suska with a pitch to load the bases and then hit Peter Herman with a pitch to force in a run. Braxton Tautges hit aground ball to second baseman Adam Thygesen. Thygesen bobbled it though and another run scored to make it 4-0. Matt Tatutges followed with a fielder's choice grounder to score a run and make it 5-0.

The Aces started their comeback in the bottom of the fourth against Billy Goats pitcher Matt Tautges. Reid Hartmann's RBI double scored Brodie Gibart and Dixon Irwin added an RBI single to score Hartmann to cut the Billy Goats lead to 5-2. Red Wing added another run in the fifth inning when Nick Azar doubled and later scored on an RBI groundout by Colter Hegge. The Aces added another run in the sixth inning. Brodie Gibart singled and Reid Hartmann walked. Dixon Irwin flew out to left field. Marcus Walm's bloop single loaded the bases. Adam Thygesen hit a sacrafice fly to right field to score Gibart to make it a 5-4 contest.

Aaron Johnson went the first six innings on the mound for the Aces. Drew Ball pitched the final three innings but was nicked for a run in the seventh inning as Lane Girtz singled and scored a on clutch two out single by Andrew Rueckert. Matt Tautges retired nine of the last ten Aces batters over the last three innings to close the game out for Buckman and end the Aces season.

Buckman is 15-3 and plays the St. Martin Martins in the second round Saturday at 11am in Shakopee while the Aces end a great year at 26-10.

The game Sunday might have been the final game for longtime Aces veterans Aaron Johnson and Adam Thygesen. They both indicated after the game that they may hang up the cleats. Johnson has played 17 years of and has over come two Tommy John surgeries to be one the best pitchers in Aces history. Thygesen has played 20 seasons.
