Hockey: Heise #1 pick!
Lake City native Taylor Heise was the #1 overall pick by the new Minnesota franchise of the PWHL (Professional Womens Hockey League). The draft was held Monday afternoon in Toronto, Ontario, Canada.
There were 90 players picked yesterday...15 for each team and 14 overall hail from Minnesota.
Heise played high school hockey in Red Wing and was Ms. Minnesota Hockey in 2018. Heise then went on to a stellar career at the University of Minnesota where she won the Patty Kazmaier award in 2022 as the top college womens hockey player. Heise was an All-American selection with the Gophers and been a part of numerous world championship teams the team USA including three straight U18 world championships.
THE PWHL has six franchises located in Minnesota, Boston, New York, Ottawa, Toronto and Montreal. The 24 game regular season starts in January.
