A TREMENDOUS THURSDAY FOR THE GOODHUE WILDCATS AND LAKE CITY TIGERS IN GIRLS AND BOYS TOURNAMENT BASKETBALL ACTION.

 

THE GOODHUE WILDCATS GIRLS STARTED THE DAY WITH A 65-38 THUMPING OF MAYER LUTHERAN IN THE CLASS A QUARTERFINALS OF THE STATE TOURNAMENT AT MATURI PAVILLION ON THE UNIVERSIRT OF MINNESOTA CAMPUS.

 

ELISABETH GADIENT HAD 19 POINTS AND 15 REBOUNDS FOR GOODHUE.  NATALIE THOMFORDE HAD 19 POINTS AND KENDYL LODERMEIER ADDED 11 POINTS AND 11 REBOUNDS FOR THE WILDCATS.

 

GOODHUE FORCED 24 CRUSADERS TURNOVERS AND RACKED UP 52 TOTAL REBOUNDS IN THE CONTEST.

 

THE #1 SEEDED WILDCATS ARE 26-5 AND FACE #4 SEED UNDERWOOD IN THE STATE CLASS A SEMI-FINALS AT WILLIAMS ARENA AT NOON TODAY WITH THE PRE-GAME SHOW AT 11:45AM ON KWNG 106 AND ON-LINE AT WWW.KWNG.COM WITH RACE ROTH CALLING THE ACTION.

 

WILDCATS FANS THEN MADE THE TRIP DOWN HIGHWAY 52 LAST NIGHT TO THE ROCHESTER MAYO CIVIC CENTER ARENA WHERE THE GOODHUE WILDCATS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM. THE #6 SEED, UPSET #1 SEED BLOOMING PRAIRIE 47-44 TO WIN THE SECTION 1A CHAMPIONSHIP.

 

SOPHOMORE LUKE ROSCHEN GOODHUE BROKE A 42-42 TIE WITH A HUGE THREE POINT BASKET WITH 1:53 LEFT IN THE SECOND HALF TO PUT THE WILDCATS UP 45-42 AND THEY HELD ON FOR THE WIN.  ROSCHEN ADDED 16 REBOUNDS FOR GOODHUE.  BRADY KITTELSON LED ALL SCORERS WITH 17 POINTS FOR BLLOMING PRAIRIE BUT THEIR SEASON ENDS WITH A 28-3 RECORD.

 

GOODHUE IS 18-13 AND HEADS TO THE CLASS A  BOYS STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT QUARTERFINALS AT TARGET CENTER IN MINNEAPOLIS NEXT THURSDAY.

THIS IS GOODHUE'S FIFTH TRIP TO STATE IN SCHOOL HISTORY AND THEIR FIRST SINCE 2017.

 

THE SEEDINGS FOR THE BOYS STATE BASKETBALL TOURNAMENT COME OUT SATURDAY MORNING.

 

THE LAKE CITY TIGERS BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM WRAPPED UP ACTION THURSDAY NIGHT BY RUNNING PAST CANNON FALLS 80-56 AT THE MAYO CIVIC CENTER ARENA TO WIN THE SECTION 1AA CHAMPIONSHIP AND PUNCH UP THEIR TICKET TO THE STATE TOURNAMENT.

 

HUNTER LORENSON LAKE CITY WITH 20 POINTS, KEEGAN RYAN ADDED 17, JADEN SHONES 14 AND JOSH WOHLERS 11 FOR THE TIGERS, WHO HITS 35 OF 60 SHOTS

ON THE NIGHT. AIDEN JOHNSON AND DYLAN BANKS HAD 19 POINTS APIECE FOR CANNON FALLS.  THE BOMBERS ENDED THE SEASON AT 24-6 WITH THE 24 WINS A SCHOOL SEASON RECORD.

 

LAKE CITY IS 24-5 AND ADVANCES TO THE STATE CLASS AA QUARTERFINALS NEXT WEDNESDAY.  SEEDINGS FOR STATE COME OUT SATURDAY AND DEPENDING ON WHERE

THEY ARE SEEDED, THE TIGERS, WHO ARE CURRENTLY RANKED THIRD IN THE STATE IN CLASS AA, WILL PLAY AT EITHER WILLIAMS ARENA OR THE TARGET CENTER.

 

THIS IS LAKE CITY'S NINTH TRIP TO STATE IN SCHOOL HISTORY AND THEIR FIRST TRIP SINCE 2019.  LAKE CITY HAS THREE STATE TITLES, WINNING IT ALL IN

1978, 1979 AND 1990.

Marc-Andre Fleury stopped all 16 shots that he faced as the Minnesota Wild blanked the Anaheim Ducks 2-0 at the Xcel Energy Center. Zach Bogosian and Kirill Kaprizov both lit the lamp in the victory as the Wild extended their point streak to six games. Minnesota is in fifth place in the Central Division with 73 points and a 33-27-and-7 record. The Wild are just four points out of the final playoff spot in the Western Conference. They take on the Blues tomorrow night.


The Minnesota Twins had just four hits during a 5-1 Spring Training loss to the Toronto Blue Jays at Lee Health Sports Complex. Edouard Julien went two-for-three with an RBI, while Bailey Ober was charged with the loss after surrendering two earned runs and one unearned run in two-and-two-thirds innings. Jordan Balazovic starts for Minnesota against Boston tonight.


The Minnesota Gophers are one-and-done in the Big Ten Tournament following a 77-67 Second Round loss to Michigan State at the Target Center. The Gophers led by five with under 13 minutes left in regulation, but the Spartans went on a 15-2 run to take control of the game. Dawson Garcia poured in 19 points in the losing effort. The Gophers dropped to 18-and-14.
