Scam Calls Fake Law Enforcement

ree

The Goodhue County Sheriff has been made aware that local residents are being targeted by phone scammers posing as officers from the Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office.

These callers may claim that you missed a court appearance or jury duty, have a warrant out for your arrest, etc.

They often use urgent or threatening language to pressure victims into paying money or sharing personal information.

Please remember:

• Real law enforcement will never demand payment over the phone.

• They will not request money, gift cards, wire transfers, prepaid debit cards, Bitcoin, or personal information such as Social Security numbers or banking details.

• They will not threaten arrest or legal action during an unsolicited phone call.

What to do if you receive a suspicious call: hang up, do not give any personal or financial information, don’t call the number back. Caller IDs can be spoofed.

If you wish to follow up with the officer or deputy whose name was mentioned in the phone call or you want to report the call, contact the Sheriff's dispatch.

Dispatch can get you in touch with their officer.
