The Red Wing Fire Department was dispatched to a grass fire on top of Memorial Park, in Red Wing Friday at 1:40 pm.
Red Wing firefighters arrived on the scene in approximately 2 minutes from the time of dispatch and found a wildland fire spreading through the grass and into a wooded area at the top of the park.
The fire attack was slowed due to the ongoing road construction at the entrance to the park.
The incident was placed under control within 60 minutes of arriva and crews remained on the scene to extinguish hot spots. No injuries were reported.
Mutual aid assistance was provided by Ellsworth Fire Department. Red Wing Police, Red Wing Public Works, Red Wing Engineering Department, and Goodhue County Sheriff’s Office Dispatchers also assisted with this incident.
While this incident was ongoing, the Red Wing Fire Departments responded to two additional emergency calls.
The Red Wing Fire Department reminds residents to help prevent ignitions by being careful with outdoor burning, including campfires, or avoiding any outdoor burning on high fire days. Comply with official burn bans when issued.
