After an entire year of community conversation, Red Wing City Council and Heritage Preservation Commission meetings surrounding the 20 feet of the proposed awning for the new expansion at Hanisch Bakery and Coffee Shop has reached a happy conclusion for the Bakery.
Tuesday night the Council voted 5-2 to reverse the previous HPC and Council decision to not allow the design because it did not conform to guidelines because it’s located in the the downtown historic district.
Council member Becky Norton, who along with Vicki Jo Lambert, cast the no votes, said it’s a matter of fairness to everyone else and the City should keep a level playing field for everyone.
Mayor Gary Iocco didn’t have a vote but did voice his support for Bill Hanisch and all the business owners in town.
Bill Hanisch posted a thank you Wednesday morning to everyone who voiced their support and the City Council.
