Red Wing Awarded Federal Safe Streets and Road Funding

The City of Red Wing has been awarded $195,760 in federal funding for its Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Planning Grant application.

Funding for the project is from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law (BIL), also known as the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA).

The federal funds will be matched with $48,949 of City funding and estimated in-kind staff time for engineering, administration, and community engagement. The total estimated cost for the project is just over $244,000.

Ron Seymour, the City’s Capital Investment Program Manager, says the City's 2040 Community Plan’s transportation component has several identified transportation-related Special Area Studies where there are safety concerns.

City Engineer Jay Owens adds for this safety planning project, they really want to engage the public, paying particular attention to underserved and unserved communities.
