Project Food Shelf Totals

The annual KWNG-KCUE radio event to help the Red Wing Area Food Shelf last Friday and Saturday at Walmart was a big success.

Food Shelf Manager, Amy Schaffer, says the 2 day event collected 2,406 pounds of food and $425 in cash donations.

A HUGE thank you to all who donated to the Food Drive this weekend and Walmart for hosting the event and Ripleys Rental for the use of the trailer.

Last years totals were 1,550 pounds of food and $413 in cash.

Schaffer says the drive will keep the shelves full this week.

Schaffer says 2,400 pounds of food is a lot but the need these days is greater than ever and it goes quick. In the first week of November, over 14,000 pounds of food was distributed to 253 families.

The Red Wing Area Food Shelf  is located at 1755 Old West Main Street and have special hours this week, open today from 3-6 pm, Wednesday from 11 am – 1 pm and closed Thanksgiving day and Friday.
