Plainview Mayor, Aaron Luckstein, says the city has been working with the Minnesota Department of Transportation on their Safe Routes to School program.
Safe Routes to School’s goal is to improve safety and reduce traffic congestion around schools. Luckstein says the City has compiled the results of community input and MnDOT’s assessment.
Luckstein says Plainview and Elgin, will start their trial run starting Thursday with some low cost improvements like bumpouts, narrowing the cross walk, and paint and then collect feedback.
The Plainview News reports projects are scheduled for 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Thursday in Elgin. PEM 4-6 students will join in a ribbon-cutting ceremony, anticipated to be held at 10 a.m. at Main Street and Second Avenue Northwest.
The Plainview demonstration project is along Minnesota Highway 42 at Second Avenue Northwest, along a route that children use to walk to the PEM PreK-3 and high school buildings. A ribbon-cutting event will be planned for Thursday afternoon, following completion of the demonstration project.
