PEM School Board members on May 11th agreed to move forward with an indoor air quality project, partnering with SiteLogiq, an engineering and construction management company based in Minneapolis.
The work will remediate a mold problem which affected the PEM PreK-3 building, PEM High School, and the PEM 4-5 building in Elgin last summer.
According to the Plainview News, it will include replacing the HVAC system in the PreK-3 building, updating the fire alarm system to bring it up to new industry standards; and replacing fluorescent lighting with LED lighting.
PEM Superintendent Courtney Frie (free) said the School Board’s Transportation Committee will work with SiteLogiq, the project manager, to fine-tune the project.
It was last estimated to cost about $7.2 million, but that has not been determined.
PEM will receive annual building assessments and an online platform to see how the systems are functioning in each district building as part of the package.
Frie says the goal is to send out bids this fall and complete the project during the summer of 2027.
