Oly Weapons Charges

A Goodhue County man faces two counts of gross misdemeanor possession of a firearm after being found incompetent/mentally ill in a previous weapon assault case.

The court issued a warrant for Grant William Oly's arrest Thursday, Sept. 3. He was booked into the Wabasha County jail the same day.

According to court documents, in June 2024, Oly faced felony charges after allegedly threatening two Lake City men with a knife.

According to the Rochester Post Bulletin, 69-year old Oly was found incompetent to participate in his own defense later that year. On June 30, 2026, Wabasha County Court dismissed the case.

According to new court documents, on Sept. 1, an employee at a Goodhue County sports store called to report a man who tried to buy a magazine for an AK-47 rifle and, while doing so, allegedly made comments about shooting Muslims, how people would remember him and said he'd "be on national news."

Red Wing law enforcement identified the man as Oly, who was not eligible to possess a firearm after being found incompetent to stand trial.

According to court documents, investigators visited the other sports store, where employees said Oly had brought a rifle into the store to be altered or to buy an AK-47 magazine.

According to court documents, Oly had posted about Red Wing law enforcement and "Tiger Karma" on social media. In the early 2000s, Oly kept Siberian tigers at his Red Wing farm and called himself the "Tiger Man."

According to court documents, members of law enforcement took Oly into custody while he was outside of his home, and found AK-47 and handgun ammunition in his vehicle.

Court documents allege that a further search of the home uncovered an automatic rifle inside a wall in the kitchen area, as well as a large amount of ammunition — much it also hidden inside walls — and a handgun holster.
