MnDOT 2022 Construction Season

As winter weather arrives across most of the state, the Minnesota Department of Transportation is wrapping up the 2022 construction season during which the agency advanced or completed 258 road and bridge projects.

Notable projects completed during the 2022 construction season in Southeast Minnesota, MnDOT District 6, include:

Highway 52 Zumbrota to Cannon Falls – Completed second year of a three-year project. In 2022, crews reconstructed 6.5 miles of southbound Highway 52, built a new interchange at Highway 52 and Highway 57/Goodhue County Road 8, and replaced the southbound Highway 52 bridge over Highway 60 east.

Repaved 27 miles of southbound Hwy 61 from Wabasha to Minnesota City, improving three northbound and four southbound bridges.

Coming up in 2023, projects include resurfacing approximately 10 miles of Hwy 61 from Lake City to Red Wing. The project includes adding passing lanes near Frontenac to reduce congestion and allow an area for safer passing between Lake City and Red Wing.

MnDOT will also replace Hwy 61 bridge in Red Wing over Canadian Pacific Rail next year. Construct new left and right turn lanes at Golf Links Drive intersection and at private accesses and improve drainage and roadside safety.
