The annual Minnesota March Foodshare is underway and the Red Wing Food Shelf is one of the hundreds around the state to benefit.
Dee Bender, Board member of the Food Shelf as well as a volunteer, says March Foodshare Month actually runs through April 10th and they are always in need of certain items.
Bender says they have contacted churches, businesses, and clubs and are now asking for individuals to give. She says one fun way to help is to collect items during various small get togethers, such as bowling leagues, card games, over coffee with friends, or birthday celebrations.
Food Shelf Manager, Brenda Medina, says there are several ways to contribute monetarily.
Medina says with every $1 you donate, they are able to buy about $3 worth of food at the Channel One Food Bank in Rochester.
The Red Wing Food Shelf is located at 1755 Old West Main Street and they are open Tuesday’s from 4–6 pm, Thursday’s 4-6 pm, and Fridays from 11 am – 1 pm.
