Minnesota State Senator Bill Lieske (R-Lonsdale), who is serving his first term in the Minnesota Senate representing district 58, which includes communities in Dakota, Goodhue, Rice, and Scott Counties, returned to the capitol on Monday for the beginning of the 2024 session of the Minnesota Legislature.
Â
The agenda and debate this session will be shaped in large part by the forthcoming February revenue forecast, scheduled to be released later this month, which will detail the state’s financial picture.
Â
A report issued by the office of Minnesota Management and Budget last December projected a small budget surplus for the upcoming session and a $2.5 billion deficit in the following budget cycle.
Â
Lieske is joined by Senator Steve Drazkowski (R-Mazeppa), who is also serving his first term in the Senate.
Â
Drazkowski represents Senate District 20, which includes communities in Dakota, Goodhue, Olmsted, Wabasha, and Winona Counties.
Â
Prior to his election in the Senate, Drazkowski served eight terms in the Minnesota House of Representatives.
