Amateur Baseball:
Hampton Cardinals 8 Red Wing Aces 7-The Aces had the lead three different times early in the game but couldn't hold it as the Cardinals rallied for the win at the Athletic Field Tuesday night.
Red Wing led 3-0 after two innings but starting pitcher Drew Ball departed in the second inning with an arm injury. Hampton scored two unearned runs off Sam Palmatier in the third inning but Reese Tripp had an RBI double in the bottom of the third inning to put Red Wing up 4-2.
The Cardinals scored two more runs in the fourth off Palmatier ti tie the game 4-4. A 20 minute rain delay hit in the bottom of the fourth inning but the Aces scored three times in the bottom of the fourth after the rain delay to lead 7-4.
Hampton scored three times in the top of the fifth inning against Jack Carlson, the Aces third pitcher of the night, to tie it 7-7. An error led off the inning for Hampton, with two walks, a two run single and a wild pitch scoring the three runs.
Aidan O'Brien tossed three shut out innings of relief for the Aces but Hampton scored a run in the top of the ninth on a two out RBI single by Mason Lorenzon off Cooper Chandler, the Aces fifth pitcher of the game to grab the win.
The Aces three game winning streak ends and their record is now 11-13. The Aces play Waterville in the first round of the Jordan Tournament Friday night.
The Aces next home game is Tuesday, July 12th at 7:30pm as they host the Dodge County Diamondbacks on Bluff Country 1250 KCUE/KCUE 99Fm and on-line at www.kcueradio.com. The Red Wing Royal Ambassador candidates will be in attendance at that game.
