Greg Taylor

The Minnesota Legislature passed it’s 1st Veterans Omnibus Bill and it was signed by Governor Walz on May 10th.

Lance Garrick, with the Red Wing American Legion, says the $152.5 million bill is great news for post-9/11 Minnesota veteran’s. The bonuses are $1,200 to veterans with a campaign badge, $600 to vets who served at the time, and $2,000 to Gold Star surviving beneficiaries as listed in the state statutes.

In addition to the bonuses and an increase in the grant program, the bill includes funding to furnish three new Minnesota veterans homes, more money for state cemeteries and for more permanent supportive housing options for homeless veterans.

The Minnesota Department of Veteran’s Affairs will release more details in the July issue of The Minnesota Legionnaire.

Garrick says you can call the Red Wing American Legion at 388-6223 for more information.
