Large Crowds Millville Valley River Days

Greg Taylor

Millville, pop. 149-ish, was hopping earlier this month as hundreds of people gathered for the annual Millville Valley River Days celebration.

The event started Friday, Aug. 9 with the crowning of Millville’s royalty - King and Queen Jerry and Paula Dick, ‘Mini King’ David Schuchard, ‘Mini Queen’ Mackenna Dick, ‘Little Queen’ Chloe Schuchard, and ‘Junior Queen’ Lola Dick, in the spacious Millville Valley American Legion Post 579. Live music was provided by Logan Hofschulte and Muddcat Melby.

According to the Plainview News, Saturday the 10th’s events included a medallion hunt, canoe/kayak races on the Zumbro River from Hammond to Millville, a men’s softball tournament, a bean bag tournament, the Classic Car show in the park, face-painting and balloon art, the Gopher State tractor pulls - modified garden tractors racing up Bridge Street in LOUD competition - minnow races, and music by Doc DJ and Show Me Your Hits.

Sunday’s events included a 150th anniversary celebration at the Swedish Evangelical Lutheran Church - the ‘Old Stone Church’ - which attracted many folks interested in its history.

Other highlihts included the big parade, a flag-burning ceremony at the Legion, polka music by the Rhythm Playboys, a bean bag tournament, the kids’ pedal tractor pulls, and the Rubber Duck races.

Millville Valley River Days was brought back in 2016 after many years without an annual town celebration.
