A trail connecting He Mni Can Barn Bluff to Colvill Park (Segment 3 of the Riverfront Trail) in Red Wing has moved much closer to becoming a reality over the last few months.
Since the purchase of a critical piece of land from CP Rail was approved in September, an additional $1.8 million in federal funds has been allocated to the project, bringing federal funding to 65% of construction costs.
The Red Wing Area Fund also generously donated $92,000 to cover the cost of acquiring the CP Rail property, which City Council formally accepted Monday night.
The City Council also approved applying for another $576,000 in grant funding that would bring federal funding to the maximum 80% of the construction costs.
If the grant is received, the project would be fully funded, with the remainder of the cost covered by City funds that have been budgeted over the last several years and next year.
