Great River Rail Second Amtrak Train

Greg Taylor

A plan to add a second daily Amtrak train between St. Paul's Union Depot and Chicago is getting closer to reality.

Laurel Stinson is the City of Red Wing’s representative on the Great River Rail Commision and says the Minnesota Legislature has already earmarked $10 million towards for the project and much needed rail upgrades are already going on.

Stinson says the hope is the legislature will approve the final amount of funding and get the second train up and running next year.

In addition to stops in in Red Wing, the 2nd train will stop in Winona, Wabasha, Lake City, Hastings, La Crosse, Wisconsin, among others.
