The Goodhue County Corn & Soybean Growers are putting their checkoff dollars to good use in their community.
The county board donated funds to the Cannon Falls Fire Department and Lake City Fire Department for grain bin rescue equipment.
The county board was awarded special funding from the Minnesota Soybean Research & Promotion Council (MSR&PC) to donate to the fire departments.
The departments used the funds to purchase two 5-panel sets and two slide hammers.
According to a Purdue study, there were 59 non-fatal cases and 24 fatal cases involving agriculture confined spaces across the U.S. in 2022.
This is a 41% increase over 2021, the highest number of cases reported frequency in the last decade. Of the total, 42 of the accidents were grain related, grain bin accidents, a 49% increase from 2021.
