Each year, the Goodhue Soil and Water Conservation District elected Supervisors selects a landowner(s) for the Goodhue County SWCD Conservation Farmer of the Year Award.
This award is given to landowner owner(s) and/or operator(s) who practice sound conservation practices on their farm and have proven to be good stewards of the land.
Award winners this year are Dana and Karin Jokela, (Cannon Falls, Warsaw TWP).
Dana and Karin have been managing 50 acres (of a larger 360-acre family owned) growing organic crops and perennial habitat planting under the name of Sogn Valley Farm.
This years Goodhue County Farm Family of the Year winner is Tony and Maizie Scheffler and family.
Tony and Maizie started farming in 2003 and they purchased 40 acres and the building site in 2018. The couple, along with their kids, currently milk 150 cows and the milk is sold to Plainview Milk Products.
Tony and Maizie are dedicated to the 4-H dairy judging program and have coached many teams over the past 25 years. The Scheffler family also leases dairy cattle to youth who do not live on a farm but have an interest in dairy.
