Friday Tornados and Storms

Parts of southeastern Minnesota are still cleaning up after severe thunderstorms Friday afternoon brought tornadoes, strong winds, and hail.

The National Weather Service confirms five tornadoes touched down Friday in southeastern Minnesota. No injuries have been reported.

The Olmsted County Sheriff’s Office reports dozens of homes were damaged by the tornadoes. Rochester and Hayfield had 1.75-inch hail and one-inch hail fell in Red Wing, Faribault, and Cannon Falls.

One of the two tornados rated as EF-2s, was in the Viola-Plainview area, and reached speeds of up to 125 mph.

That tornado was said to be on the ground for about 14 minutes, and traveled for about seven and a half miles.

KTTC reports 89-year old Yvonne Kruger has been living in her house in southeast Plainview for 63 years and while her house and farm sustained massive damage, she got through the storm with no injuries.
